Skyler and Georgia Lewis
 
 
Skyler was in her office, having requisitioned a shuttle for Bajor. She was  
sitting at her desk slightly distracted, going over damage reports and repair  
progress from DS9 engineers. It appeared that all would be back in working 
order  by the time shore leave was over. She was also looking at the changes in 
 
personnel, it appeared that there were going to be some changes happening in 
the  near future.
 
As she sat and pondered the event's of her night with Mia she heard her  door 
chime go off.
Who could that be, everyone should be enjoying their shoreleave?  She 
remained at her desk and replied, "Enter."
 
As soon as the doors opened Skyler knew who it was. "Georgia, why are you  
still here and not back checking up on Eliza Mae?"
 
"Wells, Is was gonna go see the ole biddy, but I reckon Is wanted to sees  
yous for a moment. That okays wit yous?" Sitting down Georgia made herself at  
home, as usual.
 
"Why wouldn't it be okay with me Georgia? You know you are welcome anytime.  
What's on your mind that would stop you from pestering Eliza?" Standing Skyler 
 made her way to the replicator and made Georgia her usual Ice Tea with 
Lemon,  while she had her usual Diet Pepsi. Taking the drinks she walked over 
to 
the  couch and sat down next to the older woman, handing her the glass of tea. 
"Okay,  what's on your mind, and I know that something is."
 
Looking at Skyler, Georgia realized that it had been sometime since they  had 
actually spoken about anything. "Are yous happy Ms. Skyler? I means really  
happy?"
 
"Why would you ask that? Of course I'm happy." She knew that Georgia could  
read her better than even the most talented Betazoid.
 
"Is jest checkin, thats all. What wit alls thats been happening around  heres 
lately. Is didn't want to find yous all messed up in sickbay cause of you  
being in the holodeck like last time. Is know hows yous git. Yous had a lot  
happen to yous in the past few months. First there were Sunni, then there were  
your coma, thank the lord for Ms. Marksbury or yous wouldn't be here now."  
Pausing, she took a sip of her drink, letting the cold liquid soothe her  
throat.
 
Skyler looked at her knowing she wasn't done talking. Even listening to  
Georgia list everything that had happened sent shivers up her spine. A lot had  
happened, granted she probably hadn't handled a few things the best she could,  
but that was in the past, hopefully the future would be better.
 
"So is yous okay after this last mission and all that temporal stuff yous  so 
dislike? I was worried 'bout yous and 'bout Ms. Melanie."
 
"I'm fine Georgia. Don't I look it?" If she ever found out about Grace,  and 
the fact that I hadn't told her she would tan my hide. Damn I hate  secrets. 
"In fact I was going to head to Bajor in the morning. I'm  just finishing up 
some reports and such before leaving."
 
"Whys you going to Bajor? Is thought yous would want to be near Ms. Melanie  
or at least spend sometime wit her? Whats going on in yous mind Ms.  Skyler?"
 
Laughing Skyler looked at her old friend, her "mother" in so many ways.  "Are 
you sure you aren't from Betazed instead of Mississippi? Nothing is going  
on. Melanie has Eli and you to watch over her, she doesn't need me standing  
watch. Besides I need some time to unwind. Since we're on DS9, Bajor sounded  
like a good place to visit." Skyler sighed, she hated when Georgia questioned  
her like this. It was almost as if she could read her mind at times.
 
"Is that Amelia gonna go wit you?"
 
There it is, out in the open. Not like I wasn't expecting it after she  met 
Mia. just surprised it took her so long. "Yes, Georgia, Mia is going  with me. 
In fact she is the one who chose Bajor."
 
"Ms. Skyler, do she make you happy? Cause sumthin tells me yous isn't  always 
happy."
 
"Georgia, I am fine." Am I? Mia does confuse the hell out of me, yet at  the 
same time I can't get her off my mind. There is just something about her  that 
makes me want to protect her and want her in my life, but she isn't ready  or 
doesn't want that. I'm not sure which. 
 
"Georgia, I know you don't know Mia, but hopefully in time you will get to  
know her and find that she is an interesting person. As for her making me 
happy,  I suppose she does. She makes me feel things I haven't felt 
since.....since 
I  don't know when. I don't know what is going to happen or if anything is 
going to  happen. I know how I feel and that is all I can control. The rest is 
up to her.  I know you don't approve but isn't being happy what's important? 
That's what you  and Henry taught me."
 
Georgia smiled slightly at the mention of her Henry. "Yes, Ms. Skyler, yous  
bein happy, s'all that matters to me. It ain't that Is dunt approve, its jest  
that Is wants yous to be happy. Ifn she is gonna be the one to make you 
happy,  then its fine by me. Yous deserve to be happy, yous taint been happy 
for  
sumtime. Jest remembers, yous gots family on dis ship. Yous gonna be an Auntie  
soon."
 
The thought of being called an Auntie made Skyler smile. "I know Georgia,  
believe me I know. I just never thought I would have any family other than you. 
 
Now I have a sister and will soon have a niece. You have to admit it is a lot 
to  absorb. I think Melanie or Sunni, and I are getting closer, although she  
considers me to over protective. Things will work out. They always do. At 
least  so far they have. Besides you are gonna be a Granny soon. Something you 
never  thought would happen."
 
"Yep, never did think I would git to be a granny. Is lookin to spoil that  
child. Fact I was gonna go onto that there station and sees what I can find for 
 
the youngin. Chilen can never has enough."
 
"Georgia, you are gonna make one special Granny. This baby is lucky to have  
you around. I know I was. I don't know what I would have done without you and  
Henry? You know I love you even though I don't tell you that enough."
 
"Baby, Is know yous love me. I love you too. Nows Is know yous got your  
stuff to git ready. Yous go and has yourself a good time." Georgia stood up and 
 
put her arms around Skyler, giving her a bear hug. "Yous take care of yourself, 
 ya here?"
 
It felt good to be in Georgia's arms. Georgia hadn't held Skyler is a long  
time. "Don't worry ole woman, I won't do anything stupid. I learned enough the  
last time. Now go on and get your sleep before you spend all day tomorrow  
shopping."
 
"Yes'm Ms. Skyler. Yous git sum rest to."
 
Skyler watched as Georgia left her office. She had a lone tear falling down  
her cheek. What would I do without you in my life Georgia? You are the one  
stable thing I can always count on. Skyler watched as the door closed, then  
returned back to her desk to finish up the reports so she could relax on  Bajor.
