<USS Avalon> Behind Closed Eyes

Behind Closed Eyes
by Senior Lieutenant Commander Anthony Shimbrodus

Caleb headed to the bridge in a calm manner. If it was any other cell leader,
they'd be frantic, nerve stricken, anxious, and quick to jump the gun. But he'd
been with the resistance for as long as the Marquis become known throughout the
quadrant. Years of experience had taught him to take things as calmly and
logically as possible. It was that state that kept Caleb alive through the
Dominion War. He and a few of his crew members were part of a few not accounted
for after a failed mission in attempt to stop a Cardassian convoy.

But the days of the War were over. Like every power in the Alpha Quadrant, it
was time to heal and move forward. But unlike the Federation, or the Klingons,
Caleb had a harder time banding together of what was left of the resistance. No
one had any fight in them left. The colonies in the demilitarized zone had
their own global wide problems. And citizens among them were too concerned over
energy resources and waste reclamation to give a care about a lost cause.

In the last few years, Caleb had pulled of a feat even he thought would be
impossible. He had banded a few dozen former- and new- Marquis. His latest
progression was placing a new cell on Dorvan Five. Confident in his abilities,
and inspiring the younger recruits, Caleb had become a figure in everyone's
eyes. Which led to the billionth nod of acknowledgment to the last crew member
he just passed.

The doors wisped open, crackling somewhat as though it actually took something
out of the ships power systems to do such a trivial thing. He looked up with a
perked eyebrow and a smile, "still isn't fixed."

"We know, Caleb. But that's the plasma monkey's job. Not ours, you know that,"
Tom said as he turned around facing Caleb. There was a thin scar that went as
high as the ridge of his forehead and ran down at the side to ear level. It was
a reminder of a Cardassian interrogator that killed Tom's family right in front
of him.

"Yeah yeah," Caleb responded, "so why did you call me up here for?"

"We have a situation. Our new sensors are picking up a Starfleet ship within
the vicinity. Their scans have yet to penetrate our sensor masks."

"Yet?" Caleb questioned Tom's assessment, "I was told that these new
enhancements would be impenetrable?"

"You know how Starfleet types are, they always manage to spoil a good thing,"
Jody responded as, manning the helm. Her greying hair pulled back in a tight
bun. Jody was also one of the few people that survived the attacks during the
war. Most of Caleb's bridge crew were veterans.

"What's the status of Bald Eagle?"

"They're still undergoing the sensor refit before they can come back to our
time line," Ranul responded, manning communications and operations. A Ktarian
that was too bulky to be in a small seat he was on. Caleb moved over to the
center seat, weighing in some options.

Ever since Caleb and his crew found the wormhole, advances were made, and Caleb
taught he found his salvation through this new finding. Right after the
discovery, his cell grew larger. Expanding his lines of communications through
five colonies, all underground, and creating a small fleet that were slowly
being re-equipped with advanced technology. The success was something to be
admired, as Caleb's ship and a few other retrofitted interceptors were making
successful raids against Cardassian trade routes. The news feeds given a brief
statement that not even the Cardassian know who were behind these raids.

"Tell Bald Eagle to stay and take their time. Keep an eye on this Fleet ship."

"Caleb, if that Fleet ship gets to close..."

Tom was cut off as Caleb got up from his seat, "I know, Tom. You don't have to
tell me." Turning to Ranul, Caleb shifted his turquoise eyes to the Ktarian,
"Alert the closest ships to us. Tell them to rendezvous with us at these
coordinates." Ranul nodded.

"Get me a visual," Caleb said as he stared at the Starfleet vessel, "And
someone get me some information on this ship."
