<USS Avalon> Avalon- The New Home

The New Home

by Anthony Manson

Well, here was my new start. As we got off the runabout, the Commander told me
she had other things to attend to, but told me my quarters was on deck 3; and
some number I couldn?t place in my head for anything. It was probably my only
mishap as operations officer. All those numbers. Deck number-whatever,
section-number-whatever, of the corner of quarters number-whatever and
number-whatever. I think mine ranged somewhere from section three, to section
8. Okay, so it?s not the numbers, it?s my sense of direction. Give me a console
on the map of a computer, and I can take you everywhere and anywhere; place me
on the center-physically- and tell you where the lounge was, I?d probably lead
you into the transporter room. Though it?s not that bad, I work on it.

I also fell asleep just before we had docked on the Avalon. I swear I didn?t
mean anything by it. But what can I do...yes yes, chastise me about me and my
full of anti-social ways, but it?s hard. And yes, I know I have to start
somewhere, so this wasn?t perfect or planned out to be so: but there are bounds
to be a better time and place. Im sure I?ll find it.

Honest, I do.

Really.

Stop looking at me like that.

I got to my quarters pretty much slowly. I?ve never been on this type of ship
before, so a little exploring as I made way to my home was called in order. It
was clean and orderly; like all Starfleet ships were, the organized way of
things. It was also quiet. A lot of crew members that I pass by gave either
smile or nod. I did what I could with the nods and not too quiet "hellos".
Someone has to hear me. Hope I didn?t give anyone too bad of an impression of
me. I hope some heard me; don?t want to seem rude an all.

After all, it?s bad on your first things to start on, especially on a new
starting track.

I finally got there and entered. It was dark.

"Computer, lights- dim." I said and the familiar bleep came in and instantly
the lights went into their dark glow. I looked around, not shabby at all. It
definitely had more space than the Blackwell. A bed that looked a little
bigger. Or maybe my imagination. A table, a simple couch to sit on. And off to
my left was the bathroom with the set of automatic drawers just before you
enter the bath.

I dropped the bag on the couch, and headed out. I was to report on the bridge
just after I dropped my belongings. I quickly took one thing out. It was a
picture of Kristy and I. One of those where we looked all dorky and gave you a
memory that it was that fine day that you were having fun with your sibling.
For me, it was one of those few moments. But at least I remember them.

I placed it on the side of the bed.

"Computer, lights off."

The computer buzzed, but I didn?t give it much thought as I made my way to the
bridge.
