Facing The Music
"Come."
Karg enters the Captain's office, moves directly in front of his desk and 
stands at attention, "Lt. Karg reporting as ordered sir."
"Lieutenant, do you want to tell me why you were AWOL?"
Karg does not know exactly how to phrase his reply. "Actually sir, its hard 
to say without sounding stupid."
"Try."
"I, uh, met a woman, sir, and I, uh, felt it was pretty important that I stay 
with it, sir."
"Do you have any idea how many times I have heard that excuse?"
"Uh, I can imagine sir. Perhaps it will make a difference if I tell you who 
it was."
"This had better be good."
"Its Lt. Col. Kira, sir."
"The commander of Deep Space 9? That's who you were with?"
"Aye sir."
"When you make up a story, you go right to the top, don't you? Maybe I should 
call her and verify it."
"No need sir. She's here sir, in the hallway."
Keith has a "Boy you are really something" expression on his face. "All right 
lieutenant, show her in."

Nerys enters, trying to gauge how much trouble Karg is in. She is shown to 
the guest chair on Keith's right. As Karg is about to sit, Keith says, "Are you 
tired lieutenant? Did anyone tell you to sit?"
Karg springs from his chair like it was on fire to stand again at rigid 
attention. Nerys seeing this, rises from her chair and stands at attention next 
to 
Karg. Keith is a little confused, "Colonel?"
She replies, "Equally innocent, equally guilty captain."
"Oh, both of you sit down."

Keith looks at Nerys, "Do you want to tell me what is going on here Colonel?"
"Up until a few days ago I would have given you a very different answer to 
that question." She looks at Karg and smiles briefly then turns back to the 
captain. "Everyone will know sooner or later - I love this man. It happened 
very 
quickly and we are both still adjusting to it. I can't pass him up. I won't 
pass him up. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
"What about your command Colonel?"
"Star Fleet had returned the facility to the Bajoran government when Capt. 
Sisko left. On the way here, I sent the military command a message resigning my 
commission. Captain, I started in the Resistance when I was 12. I think I've 
done my fair share by now. Star Fleet never rescinded the commission that I 
received during the Dominion Wars. I guess they wanted to feel that they were 
still in control."

"What did you think you would do while you're on Avalon?"
Karg interrupts, Begging your pardon sir. I have only two officers assigned 
to Covert OPS part time and only one official assistant at Tactical. I believe 
an officer of the Colonel's experience would be a tremendous asset and Iâ??d 
like to have her assigned to me. . . Wow, that sounded a lot better in my head."
Nerys asks, "Is he always like this?"
"I'm afraid so. Think of his mother with three kids at home like this."
"Oh my word that poor woman!"

Keith takes a long time to consider the situation then says, "OK, Iâ??ll put 
through a request to have you added to our crew. Iâ??ll add my approval and my 
recommendation."
Nerys rises to shake his hand, "Thank you captain."
"Off the record, my best wishes to you both. Let me know if I can help in any 
way."
Karg, "Aye sir, thank you sir."

When the door closes to his office, from the hallway, Keith can hear two 
joyous cheers and then silence. He is smiling at the thought of what they must 
be 
doing
