Arachnonaut: The First R'ish'tk in Space
by Mir'ast'hera
It had all seemed great adventure, her special suit was actually quite cosy,
and being the first of her kind to see the entire planet from above made her
light-headed, as if someone had put oxygen in her breather.
The craft was only just big enough for her and all the equipment that they
fitted to it. Comfort of the pilot was not the primary concern of the
designers. No-one bothered to climb in here with a suit on did they? she chided
herself. The ride into orbit had been quite scary, to feel that immense
pressure upon ones body and it not implode.... Mir'ast'hera wriggled her
forelegs and gnashed her pinchers at the mere thought.
After the first orbit of the planet, on which she captured many interesting
images for her fellow scientists, something hit the side of the ship.
It had also hit with enough force to throw her craft spinning out of orbit. As
she had been doing the preparatory checks on the faster-than-light drive the
collision somehow managed engage that at the same time.
It was a short hop, but enough to take her to the outer reaches of their
system. She had managed to stop the ship with gentle use of those thrusters
that still worked.
Once her head stopped spinning the pilot activated the distress call, knowing
full well rescue from home would be impossible. Doing a run down of systems she
found life-support still functional and dialed it down to a minimum level,
settling back to wait.
Let's see if there's anyone out here.

universe!"
