<USS Avalon> "Answers Delivered" By Lt. Marksbury

"Answers Delivered"
By Lieutenant First Class Elissabeth Marksbury

Lissi composed herself and swiped the PADDs she had been working on off her
table, thoughts of Monroe still dancing in her head. She made her way to the
delegate's conference room where she had set up the meeting with Ambassador
Creval. Ensign Dareth was to meet her there as well. He had proved to be
rather valuable to Lissi and she considered making him her assistant.

Dareth was waiting for her in the corridor outside the conference room. He
smiled when he saw her. "Your cheeks are flushed," was his greeting.

"Most times, Ensign, I would praise your attention to detail, but this isn't
one of them," Lissi grinned in reply. "And what is the Ambassador's temperment
this evening?"

"Impatient. If you had been here four hours ago, it wouldn't have been too
soon."

"I'm sorry - I just recently finished answering the questions. Let's go, shall
we?"

They entered the conference room and Ambassador Creval stood, waiting.

"Hello, Ambassador, how are you today?"

"'Staying put' as promised," he said dryly. "Do you have the answers to my
questions?"

"I do." Lissi handed him the PADD. "I have done the best I could, sir."

"We'll see." He began perusing the information.

Lissi and Dareth waited while he read the PADD that had taken Lissi the better
part of the day to assemble. He then threw it onto the table.

"Unacceptable," he spat. "I don't need Starfleet's regulations quoted to me!
I want to go to this meeting with Ketchum and Oonal."

"I'm afraid that's impossible, sir."

"And why not?"

"Because you weren't invited."

"I - What?" The Rydyn began changing that odd colour again and Lissi exchanged
a look with Dareth.

"I'm sorry, sir, but you weren't invited. However, I am going. I checked with
my supervisor this morning. I will be Ambassador Oonal's personal escort to
that meeting. Perhaps I will be able to gather some more information then."

The Ambassador smiled, thinking Lissi finally on his side.

"However, I will warn you, Ambassador, that if my team finds any of your
delegates tampering with communications again, like this morning, then I will
no longer be speaking to you or trying to help you. Are we clear?"

"How did-? Well, we stayed as you instructed. There was no mention of
communications."

"And now there is. Am I perfectly, crystal clear, Ambassador? I told you that
I'm not your enemy and I'm not. But you don't want me to be, either." Lissi
was standing toe to toe with Ambassador Creval and he actually backed down!

"Yes, Lt. Any information is good. Thank you."

Lissi walked out of the conference room with new found confidence.

"I can't believe that just happened," Ensign Dareth exclaimed once they were
outside. "How did you know they were messing with communications? That wasn't
in my report."

"I didn't. It was just a guess. The logs say that Lt. Manson caught them once
and overrode the commands. I assumed they hadn't given up. I'm sure they
didn't get anything out of it - it seems as if Lt. Manson knows his job quite
well. I just thought it would be nice leverage."

"Are you really going to tell him what happens at that meeting?"

"Most certainly not. I never said that I would. I said that I could possibly
gather some more information. But I'm sure that whatever happens, Oonal will
fill him in. I just wanted to keep him quiet a bit longer."

"Remind me to stay on your good side, Lt."

"Oh, speaking of that...I need to go see Sierra about a certain Ensign Faust."

Ensign Dareth gulped as she walked away, seriously glad that his name wasn't
Kyle Faust.
