Another Day, Another Dollar
Garrett smiled as Caine's last appointment for the day left, heading back to
whatever life they lived on the ship. Standing, he grabbed a PADD off his desk
and headed into his supervisor's office, not at all surprised to see Caine
looking exhausted as she worked on, what Garrett guessed was a report on one of
her many patients. Taking a seat in one of the comfortable chairs across the
desk from Caine, he smiled, "you know, if you keep frowning like that, your
face is going to be perminately stuck in a frown."
Even though Caine was trying to be serious and get some more work done before
heading back to her quarters for the evening, she couldn't stop the smile that
broke out on her lips at Garrett's comment. "You know, if you keep putting
that much cologne on everymorning, your going to burn out you sense of smell,"
Caine shrugged and looked up at him, "that or else your really goign to start
scaring the ladies away."
Laughing at the counselor's wit, Garrett silently thanked whatever might be
listening for giving him a pretty laid back boss. "Actually I came in here for
a reason," he said, continuing before Caine had the chance to make a smart
comment, "I've downloaded all the information you've requested and some more
that you might need." He leaned over and handed her the PADD, proud of just
how much information he was able to find.
Taking the PADD, Caine quickly gave it a once over, impressed with the amount
of stuff Garrett had been able to find for her. "Thanks, I'll have to look
this over more closely later but it seems you went far beyond what I needed you
to." Caine smiled her thanks and went back to the report she was trying to
finish up, hoping that Garrett wouldn't go into his lecture again.
Unfortunately Caine's hoping was for nothing as Garrett sighed and leaned
forward, taking a good look at her face. "You don't look so good? Are you
getting enough sleep? I know your not eating enough while your here in the
office."
Sighing, Caine leaned back in her office chair and looked at Garrett. She knew
how tired she looked, there were bags under her eyes and her hair always seemed
a mess, no matter how much Caine tried to hide it, it was abvious that
somehting wasn't right. "Look Garrett, I know your worried about me, but I'm
fine, I'm just not getting enough sleep."
At Garrett's nod, Caine became agitated, thinking that he was only trying to
placate her. "I'm serious, I'm just not sleeping enough. Hannah's been having
these crazy nightmares everynight, she wakes up screaming bloody murder then
cries for hours afterwards, the poor child hasn't slept a full night in I don't
even know how long. And I'm a horrible, whatever I am, I don't even know what
I am to the child, but I'm not around enough, what with all of these
appointments now with Captain Flubb dead." Caine sighed and looked over at
Garrett, "I'm sorry for snapping at you, I just feel so stressed, I hardly have
time to just sit down and read anymore."
Garrett smiled understandingly over at Caine, he knew what her schedule was
like and how little time she had for anything that wasn't work related.
Getting up he moved next to her chair and pulled it out with her still sitting
in it. "Thats it, your going home and your going to take a long hot bath and
then you are going to sit down and play with Hannah, your not going to think
about work or do any work until tomorrow morning when you show up here."
With some arguments and refusals, Caine tried her hardest to stay but ended up
finally giving up, she knew that she needed to relax and Garrett was giving her
the perfect oppertunity. Feeling her body start to relax as she left the
office, Caine made a silent note to make sure she did something nice for
Garrett the next day.
