"Alone in Thoughts"
Cmdr Skyler
Skyler was sitting on the bridge staring at the still darkened view screen
wondering where the hell NoWhere was. I swear that man has more tricks up his
sleeve than anyone else I know. He was supposedly on his way back to the
bridge but seemed to be taking his own sweet time. How did he know about
talking
to the other commander? It was all too confusing to understand.
Instead she waited for the status reports to come in and wondered how Mel
was doing. While waiting she had plenty of time to think. Think about all the
time that had been lost between the two sister's. So much time had passed, so
many things were lost. Things that could not be replaced.
Closing her eyes she could almost see her and Sunni playing near the water's
edge. The waves were lapping at their feet and Sunni was laughing
hysterically. She could see their parents laughing along with them. It was all
surreal.
Georgia came bringing refreshments and joined in the laughter. Skyler ran up
and hugged Georgia's leg as she tried to walk. It was all quite humorous. It
was a happy time. A long time ago.
Now Sunni was going to have her own child to make memories with. She wasn't
to pleased with Eli. He seemed to be spending too much time away from them.
She was the sister and wasn't going to interfere, yet.
Skyler had agreed to go to the christening at the Redgrave estate, but she
wasn't sure she would fit in. She was in actuality an outsider. A complete
stranger. However she would go for Mel and the baby. Besides Georgia would drag
her along anyway. Better to go gracefully than to be dragged by an elderly
southern black woman. There was still time for that. She just wished that the
Captain would get to the bridge so she could leave and see how Mel was really
doing.
Time always seemed to drag on, on her shift.
