"Alone In Engineering"

Jr Lt K'etrall
Engineering was eerie and quite. The only sounds one heard were
those of the warp engines as they pulsed in unison. The lights were at 50%
which
is exactly where K'etrall preferred them. She didn't like working in the bright
lights. She preferred the dark. It matched her personality.
She was working the night shift, again her preference. At the
present time she was the only one working which suited her just fine. She was
starting her rounds making sure that everything would remain running smoothly.
Since the Avalon was on a routine diplomatic mission, there wasn't
much activity in engineering. This suited her just fine. She was not known for
getting along very well with others. Being part Klingon and part Human didn't
help either. The Klingon half had a tendency to become the dominate half,
which usually got her into more trouble than she would have liked. She was very
stubborn and independent, and not accustomed to taking orders very well.
When she wasn't working, she could often be found in the Holodeck,
working on some program that would test her battle skills. She would, at times,
turn the safeties off making the program more real. A test of her abilities
and prowess with all Klingon weapons. She always had her D'K'Thag in her boot.
She never went anywhere without it. Her prowess with that knife was what kept
her alive.
She depended on know one but herself. She learned early in life that
she could trust no one but herself. The Avalon was only another step in her
ladder toward a command of her own. She would do what was required of her and
bide her time. The time would come when she would be recognized for abilities.
It made no difference to her if it was by the Federation or by the Klingon
Empire. She would wait.
Down in Engineering she had finished her rounds having found
everything in order. She filed her report for the next shift. Once that was
done she
found a large open space and began to do her daily ritual of Klingon
exercises. She could at least use this quiet time to keep in shape and to
sharpen her
skills. One never knew when they would be needed. She would always be prepared
for whatever was thrown at her.
Always be prepared......
