<USS Avalon> All Aboard

"All Aboard"
Log by Lieutenant First Class Isaac Mahler
Chief Medical Officer, USS Avalon NCC-27926-C

The shuttle Waldmärchen plowed its way through space on a fairly
uneventful trip. Carl Mahler sat at the helm and did everything he could to
make it
as relaxing for his brother Isaac as possible. They killed time by playing
three-dimensional chess, San Francisco-In-A-Box, Clue (with the computer
taking
a role and "handicapping" itself) and poker, all the while trading jokes.

Finally the Avalon loomed large in the near distance and Carl received
clearance to land the shuttle, and then they were there.

"All right, off you go now Isaac. All aboard."

"What ... not even a hug from my brother?"

"You know I hate long goodbyes, Isaac."

    "Carl ..."

"Isaac, will you just go!? I have to get the Waldmärchen back to the
station in time."

"And you have tons of it, if my chronometer isn't mistaken. Now come on."

Carl rolled his eyes and followed his brother. "And just where are we
going, dear brother?"

"Follow me. First thing we're going to do is head for the messhall and
have a proper repast."

"In a ship's mess? Isaac, you know very well ..."

"Yes, yes, why it's CALLED a mess. That one's a little old, Carl.
Anyhow, here we are."

They entered and selected some food and drinks and sat and ate for a
while in silence.

"Carl ... all this trip over here, and all through this meal, you've
hardly said anything. Aside from that constant barrage of one-liners on the
journey. No real conversation. And then you try and get rid of me. Give.
What's
on your mind?"

Carl sighed. "I knew you'd find it sooner or later. It's Eva."

"What, is she sick or something?"

"No, Isaac, she's dumped me for that ... that Schweinhunde, Gerhard
Stolze."

"Him? Well, I've always said his name is fitting. Quite proud, the lout.
I say don't sweat it. Good riddance to bad garbage, Carl."

    "But Isaac ..."

"There are always others out there, dying for someone like you, and much
more worthy of your affection. Now. Give me a hug ... and off you go or that
station master will kill you if the Waldmärchen isn't returned on schedule!"
