<USS Avalon> Advising the Marines

Advising the Marines
1030 hours = Captain's Ready Room = USS Avalon

"Mr. Phillips to my ready room please."

Keith sat at his desk, his fingers tented in contemplation.

Adrian had just finished informing science about there late crewmember at
sickbay when he got the call. "On my way." He said simply as he detoured from
the marine training level to the bridge.

After a few moments he arrived and ringed the chime at the ready room door,
having no idea what to expect. The Admiral didn't normally call for him
outside of staff meetings, after all.

Keith took a deep breath and straightened up. "Enter."

The door hissed open as the marine stepped inside and stood at attention.
"You called, Admiral?"

"Yes I did, Captain. I wanted to advise you of what we were headed into.
Please have a seat", he motioned to the chair.

The relaxation came from his attention, but Adrian kept aware of what was
going on as he sat down. The first conversation he had with the Admiral still
lingered in his mind. "Where are we headed then? Seems in quite a hurry."

"Ten days ago, a runabout was stolen from Vega Prime Research Facility. The
vessel contained some proto-type weaponry. We are to find it, and get it
back, at all cost." He paused wanting that information to sink in. "Another
ship was already dispatched, and destroyed."

Adrian leaned back and whistled as the information sank in. "Vega Prime, the
bio-hell hole, at least that's how the marines have always called it. Folks
hate getting stationed there, its almost like a punishment they say, and they
kept talking about hearin' things there." He spoke, almost to himself.
"What ship was destroyed?" He asked curiously, the mission could become really
intense by this answer.

"The SS Renaissance", Keith replied, "No news of survivors, which that part
of the mission is to be secondary."

"Are those your orders or someone else's?" He asked Keith directly as he sat
up in his chair, his gaze unlingering.

"Someone else's unfortunately. I would never put the survivors secondary",
gazing back intently.

A moment of pause came as Adrian studied Keith's face. "That's good to hear
Admiral." He said finally, breaking the moment. "So, do we have any details on
who, or what, we are up against? Will Vega not give us specs so we know what
 were going to face?"

"No information on who stole the runabout, but the Breen are also interested
in the weapons. I do know that much. They were also reluctant to give
information on the weaponry."

The sigh that escaped Adrian was audiable for sure. "So obivously its highly
secret and probably has the potential to knock all us out if it felt like
it." He shook his head and then looked back at Keith. "The marines will be
ready to roll out, and I'll see aside a small unit to do a search detail for
survivors." The marine said. I vowed once not to leave anyone behind, and its
going to stay that way.

"Very good to hear. Also, at this point in time, you are hereby promoted to
the rank of Major, with all the rights and privileges", pushing the box with
the new rank insignia across the desk. "Any other questions, Major?"

His reaction was a little shocked at first for the promotion. Surprised, I
figured after my little revolt on Talus VIII high command would not want to
promote me again. "Thank you Admiral, and no other questions." He took the
insignia and placed it on his shirt.

"Very good", standing. "Dismissed then."

Adrian rose, saluted, and headed out of the ready room. As the doors hissed
shut he tapped his com-badge. "Phillips to Roger, get the troops assembled,
we've got work to do."
