<USS Avalon> Adventure! (Part I) -- Dr. Roan

Adventure! (Part I)
-- a log by
Felicity Roan

Felicity cautiously made her way to the Holodeck, praying that no one saw
her and that the Captain wouldn't call her for a medical emergency. She had
pondered what program to run, and decided on something from the early 20th
century, an Archaeology dig site near the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt.

She walked through the arches, asked the computer to change her clothing
to something more appropriate and started to run the program. She'd play the
part of Doctor Rebecca Forrester, the daughter of a well-known and respected
University Professor here to study the ruins of a pyramid.

"Computer, begin program," Felicity started walking through the dig site
with her fictitious tools in hand. "Father? Are you here? I've brought you
some lunch and can take over while you eat."

Professor James Arthur Forrester stood from his spot and studied his
daughter for a brief moment before speaking, "Rebecca, you think too much about
me. I'm close to figuring out these runes. Why don't you come back in 30
minutes and then I'll eat?"

Shaking her head, she gave him a reproachful look, "No Father, you said
that an hour ago," holding out the food, "now you eat and I'll study. I'm not
as good as you of course, but for a few moments, I think I can hold the fort
down."

James just shook his head and made way for his daughter, "Now be careful
Rebecca, the runes are fragile and if you..."

"I know Father, now eat," with a smile, she settled into the spot on the
stool to try and read the runes with the meager lighting. Felicity tried to
summon her knowledge of the story to remember what the runes said, since she
knew Rebecca actually deciphers them for her Father.

"To enter the door of the pyramid, one must know the password. The
password is made up of five words. The First word is ... SAND. Second is ...
Next
is UNLOCK followed by KEY and lastly is the DEATH," she paused to
cross-reference with what she had from her Father's note, "Oh...the second word
is
WARMTH."

Felicity smiled slowly at her work, proud that she had remembered the
words from the book she'd read as a small child. She waited a moment for her
Father to finish his bite of sandwich and called, "Father! I've translated the
runes. Come quickly!"

She discovered that this translation work took her mind off of the stress
on Avalon and set about trying to convince her Father that she in fact had
translated corrected, "Father, look, I've got it! They passwords are Sand,
Warmth, Unlock, Key and Death, right?"

"Rebecca, calm down girl! I will have to cross-check your translation.
Let's see ... we already had Sand and Warmth, but Warmth could also be Heat,
so we'll need to see about that. Next Unlock and Key seem straight forward,
leaving just Death. Death could also mean Rebirth or Life. That's a tricky
one..." He re-immersed himself in the runes for what seemed an eternity before
concluding that her translations were sound and with a smile he beamed, "Come
now my daughter, let us discover what this pyramid has to offer us..."

Felicity stood with a smile, rather enjoying this Adventure to reality.
She followed her fictitious Father to the entrance of the pyramid, knowing that
the next part would not be full of smiles, but rather traps and death...

While they walked, it watched from the walls and anticipated its victim's
next moves.
