A perilous journey
Part I
a log by Felicity Roan
Felicity and Dylan set off for the coordinates that had been given to him by
their older brother, Sebastian, presumed dead more than a year ago by
Starfleet. Both of them were nervous, afraid and concerned about what they
might
discover when they got to their destination. A fake, a fraud, an impostor.
Felicity wanted them to be there rather than have to bear the thought of
actually seeing her brother again after so long. Why had he disappeared? Why
hadn't he contacted them before now? Why was he in hiding? These were just a
few of the questions lingering in her mind.
The twins barely spoke more than three words the entire journey there. They
stepped out of the transport and made their way to the resort where they
were to make contact and checked in to the facility. They went to sit by the
pool and hoped to spy him. After three hours of nothing, they were about to
leave when a small boy handed them a data chip and disappeared. "7pm,
Sharkey's Finn, table 3 -- SR" was all that it said. They discovered that the
place
in question was on the other side of the moon, in the heaviest populated
settlement. At 6:30 they arrived and tried to talk the other out of following
through.
"Dylan, this is clearly a trap, let's go now before we have REAL problems.
I really want to stay in Starfleet until I have another position lined up ...
and you should too. Always have a back up plan, Dad taught us this!"
"Felicity, I hear you ... but we've come this far, we HAVE to meet him.
Even if he's a fake... a really good fake, just to see him for a few minutes,
wouldn't it be worth it to you? C'mon, we'll go in, take a look around and if
we don't like what we see... we leave, okay?"
"Dyl... I'm really not feeling so great about this ... what if they are
kidnappers, murderers, or worse..."
"What could be worse?" He looked at her with a look that made her sigh and
follow him inside.
Sharkey's Finn was more than just crowded ... it was wall-to-wall with
humanoids and other life forms that had she not taken Xenobiology I and II at
the
Academy, she couldn't even begin to classify them as anything in the known
universe. The bartender, a Ferengi named Gop took their orders and they tried
to figure out which one was table 3. There were about 50 tables or so, they
figured it couldn't have been too hard. Except none of the tables were
numbered. Dylan tried asking for Table three from the Maitre'd twice, but he
only
pointed at the restrooms. So much for that tactic. He tried to persuade
Felicity to use her feminine wiles, but that went over like a brick into the
sea.
Finally, at 7:20, they made their way upstairs to look at the crowd below.
The same small child appeared and motioned them towards the back of the bar.
There sat two hooded figures. When the twins sat, they discovered they were
both males in their 30's, neither of them Sebastian. Felicity realized this
quickly and began to rise from the table, "Where are you going? Don't you
want to see your brother? Do you think he'd just show up in public? Who
knows who has followed you or if you're here to really see him..."
Felicity sat and said nothing. Her mind was racing in circles ... and she
was dumbstruck by all of this. "Listen, your brother wants to see you, but
needs to make sure you're still who he thought you were ... and we're here to
make sure of that." He turned to the other chap sitting next to him, who
nodded. "You've completed the first trials ... you're clean of bugs and it
doesn't look like you've been followed."
"In about 20 minutes, we'll leave. This visit will be short and sweet
folks. Your brother cannot resist exposure. What he knows could lead to his
death and the death of your family...all of you. I warn you that sharing what
you see and hear this evening with anyone outside of this table would be a
misfortunate decision on your part. So, drink up and we'll head out. You can
call me Buddy and this is Guy."
Felicity felt a pit in her stomach the size of Australia. She knew Dylan
felt one too. He tried to reach out to her, "Okay, okay, okay ... please
don't
tell me I told you so... I don't want to hear it from you. What the hell
has Sebastian gone and gotten himself into Felicity? I'm really wishing we
had
gone fishing like you suggested now."
"Dylan, I won't tell you I told you so yet... I'm more concerned about who
Buddy and Guy are and why they are being so doom and gloom. I hope this
doesn't take long, I have a meeting at Starfleet Medical in two days."
Just as they said, in 20 minutes the two men stood and asked Felicity and
Dylan to follow. As they stepped onto their transport, they were blindfolded.
What was in store for them at their destination was just the beginning.
