<USS Avalon> A Purpose

After cleaning up, Josh reported to work. Never mind what shift it was. Never
mind the hour. He needed to work. He needed his hands and mind busy on
something. He needed something. He needed a purpose.

He no longer had a purpose.

The day and night and day blurred. He pulled the order. He did the work.

Repair, recheck, report. Next.

He delegated the easier jobs out to those around him. The more challenging he
kept for himself. He buried himself in it. He found himself in it. Never mind
what shift it was. Never mind the hour. This was his purpose. He was an
engineer.

This was all he had left.
