"A Piece to the Puzzle - Part 3"
By: Commander Skyler and Jr. Lieutenant Elissabeth Marksbury
Skyler had gone to Sickbay after passing out in the conference room earlier.
She had had a meeting with Ensign Melanie Redgrave about her findings regarding
the murder of Captain Flubb, and it ended up being a messed up discussion about
them being sisters and how Georgia had promised not to tell her. All in all it
had made Skyler so confused that she couldn't process any more of it, her brain
shut down and she had passed out.
Georgia had managed to slow down her metabolic functions and had given
her something to calm down and then had left, knowing there was nothing she
could do until Skyler was ready to talk to her. Dr. Cazook was going to have to
take care of her now. Which is what was happening at the present time.

Lissi made her way to sickbay at the appointed hour, having no trouble at all
finding the place. In fact, she noticed a few places along the way that seemed
to ring warning bells in her mind, like something wasn't quite right, but she
couldn't exactly put her finger on it. It was almost as if she were noticing
things out of the ordinary that were bothering her subconscious, but of course,
wouldn't know if anything was out of the ordinary. Damnit, she cursed
silently, the frustration over her situation growing.
She stepped inside sickbay and saw her Doctor fussing over another officer.
And she looked very...familiar. Lissi's curiosity got the better of her and
she approached the two women.
Skyler was pale and withdrawn, not having said much to Dr. Cazook
other than to report that her headaches were not improving. If anything they
were getting worse. She felt totally betrayed by everyone and didn't know who
she could trust. As Dr. Cazook was using her tricorder trying to figure out
what she could do, a voice spoke to Skyler.
"Excuse me, ma'am, I don't mean to be a bother, but you look so
familiar to me and I just can't place you. Are we acquainted?"
Skyler turned to look at the young woman and with her walls down, she
was bombarded with memories. Vauqe memories of another time, being tied up,
captured, memories of talking to someone very similar to this young woman.
In a trembling voice Skyler replied, "Yes, I think that we are. I have
memories of talking to someone very much like you. It was in another time, yet
we were still on the Avalon. Why do you ask?"
Dr. Cazook was very nervous as Skyler was speaking to this woman. She
wasn't supposed to be letting this happen, but she had no control. It was as if
things were on a downward spiral. If only Cazook knew how much things were
spiraling out of control for Skyler...
The young woman blinked several times and seemed to Skyler as if she were
trying to clear her head. In reality, Lissi was concentrating very hard on the
officer's face, trying to understand what drew her there to begin with.
Another time? No, that's ridiculous.
"I'm sorry," Lissi said, realizing how rude her pause must seem. "I'm going to
get tired of telling this story," she smiled, "but if I don't, I'd have a hard
time explaining my odd behavior, wouldn't I?"
Skyler looked at her, wishing that she'd get to the point. Her head still hurt
and this woman's presence seemed to create a dull ache behind her eyes once
again.
"I woke up here in sickbay yesterday," Lissi went on to explain, "with what
seems to be a case of temporary amnesia. You looked familiar and I hoped
perhaps you could provide a piece to the puzzle if we were friends or
something."
Rubbing her hand over her eyes, Skyler sighed slightly and said, "No, I'm sorry
that I can't help you. You look vaguely familiar to me too - maybe it was
someone like you, I don't know, and like I said it was in another time or maybe
just a dream. Who knows anymore what's real and what isn't?"
"I apologize for disturbing you ma'am," Lissi told her, sensing the officers
bit of annoyance or discomfort. She wasn't sure which. Then addressing Dr.
Cazook, "I'm here for my appointment."
Skyler nodded towards the woman, and Dr. Cazook responded by telling Lissi to
wait in another area while she finished up with Skyler.
Skyler watched as the young woman turned to go into another room. There was
something familiar about her. She tried concentrating on nothing but the young
woman. Images came faster than she had expected. The woman wore the uniform of
a Lt. and was telling Skyler what to do. Every image contained just the two of
them. Her name was Lyryn Cate. Lt Lyryn Cate. Skyler remembered that much.
Somehow the two were connected. Maybe if she concentrated on finding out about
this person, she wouldn't have to think about everyone who had betrayed her.
Just perhaps.....
Lissi went to the appointed room and closed her eyes, thinking of the officer
she had seen. She knew the woman. She had to. Concentrating with all her
energy on the face of the woman, she began breathing deeply, tuning out any
background noise, hoping to bring up something from the dark recess of her mind.
It wasn't long before her efforts were rewarded. Images of the woman, Skyler
was her name, Lissi knew now, came into focus. She saw Skyler tied up and
slightly beaten, then the roles seemed to be reversed. Those two images seemed
to be the key to unlocking the secrets of Lissi's mind. A flood of memories
came back.
They scrolled through her mind so quickly that she became nauseous. Opening
her eyes, she lunged for the trash can, throwing up everything that she hadn't
eaten for breakfast.
As if on cue, Dr. Cazook walked into the room.
"Oh, dear," she exclaimed at the sight of Lissi in the floor hugging the trash
can.
