<USS Avalon> "A Piece of the Puzzle - Part 2" By Jr. Lt. Marksbury and Monroe

"A Piece of the Puzzle - Part 2"
By: Junior Lieutenant Elissabeth Marksbury and Junior Lieutenant James Monroe

Lissi's arms and legs went through the motions as if these exercises were a
natural part of her existence. Once she stretched, it was almost as if her
body took over, knowing exactly what to do and she just followed along, hoping
this could be another peice to who she was. It surprised her a little at how
flexible and agile she was.

After exercising, she sat cross-legged on the floor, not exactly sure why, but
it seemed the right thing to do. She once again cleared her mind of all the
bothersome questions and just felt a renewed energy wash over her. And with
that energy came an idea - one that had started to form in her mind last night,
but just now came to fruition. She pondered it further during her shower and
decided to act upon it.

Once she was dressed and ready to face whatever the day may bring, she sat at
her console and rang Monroe's room.

Monroe was in the middle of a most pleasant dream involving Risan dancers with-
to his surprise- Lissi being the lead. Until his console beeped. It took
several beeps before it woke him. He had only been off duty for a few hours.

"This better be good," he grumbled, hitting the answer button.

"I'm sorry, James, did I wake you?"

Running his hand over his face and through his hair, he replied, "No, no, it's
okay. What's up?"

"I guess on a starship no one has the same sleeping schedule, do they? I
didn't mean to wake you. I need to ask you a question and I want you to tell
me the truth," she explained candidly, not really knowing any other way to go
about it.

"Shoot," he said.

"Why did you tell me to contact Lt. Maturin? What do you know that you're not
telling me? I will be sorely disappointed if you lie to me. I need to know."

He frowned a little, "Last I talked to you, you said something about contacting
Lt. Maturin. What I did find out is that you're an Intel agent, and he's your
contact. That's all I know."

"How did you find that out?"

A small smile crept up. He didn't mind telling her that he was also part with
Intel, but it was just policy not to tell. "I have my ways, Lissi. That's all."

"Doesn't tell me much, James. You're not just covering things up, are you?
Because as I said, I don't need to be lied to, and if you are..."

"I'm not Lissi. You are an Intel agent, and your contact is this Maturin guy. I
don't know anything else."

"You know more than you're telling. I can see it in your eyes," she said
squinting. "What do you know about Maturin? What do you know about his
relationship with me? And how do you know these things? Were you stationed
together? And if - " she paused having another piece just click into place.
"If I'm Intel, that means Maturin is and if you know him then you..."

"Go on," he said. "I'm glad to see that you're still thinking like an Intel
officer even if you don't remember being one."

"Are you Intel as well? Is that how you know these things? Does that mean you
know who I really am? Not Lissi, but who I really am?"

James sighed, he had no idea what she was on about. As far as Captain Holden
had told him, she was- is- Elissabeth Marksbury. "I am part with Intel, yes.
But I'm not active in it for the time being... so to speak. Look, I made a call
to someone I trust implicitly, and he told me that you were posted here and
that your background was classified. And as far as I know, you are Elissabeth
Marksbury. I don't know anything else."

Her brows furrowed in response, still not satisfied he was telling the whole
truth. "So I am Intel. Well, I guess that makes a little more sense. This has
been getting more and more complicated and the more I learn, the less I know.
And I had this dream..." she sighed.

James gave a small smile, trying to be reassuring, "Lissi, look, I wish there
was something to tell you to make you feel better, to be more sure about
yourself. But I'll be here for you, alright? I know, it's not much, but if I
can make you feel a little better, then I know I was some help."

"I'm sorry I haven't seemed more grateful. You've been wonderful. There are
just so many questions...," she shook off the haunting look creeping into her
eyes and smiled, "Go back to bed, James and I hope to see you soon."

"Anytime," James told her as he switched off his console and went back to bed.

Lissi got ready for her appointment with Dr. Cazook, counting down the few more
hours until Maturin's call.
