<USS Avalon> "A Clean Slate" by Cmdr Skyler and Jr Lt Marksbury

"A Clean Slate"
By Commander Skyler and Junior Lieutenant Elissabeth Marksbury

This time as she opened her eyes, there was a mousy looking woman standing
above her, glasses falling down the tip of her nose. The woman was holding a
scanner, running it up and down the patient's body.

"Ah, you're awake!" the over-sized glasses woman exclaimed.

The girl raised her eyebrows in confusion and slight annoyance. This didn't
look like a doctor and looking around this seemed to be a hospital of some sort.

"I don't know where I am," the girl said, sitting up quickly. A little too
quickly. The room took a turn for the upside down direction as she almost fell
off the table. Glasses lady caught her by the shoulders and forced her back to
the table.

"Hey now, take it easy," she told the girl. "I'm Doctor Cazook and we'll get
you all straightened out. Don't worry."

Dr. Cazook made sure the young woman was situated on the bio bed and was
comfortable before she went into any details about what was going on.

"I am just going to run this little gadget over you to make sure that you are
okay. It will let me know if you have hurt yourself or if you have any other
injuries that I should know about. It won't hurt in the least, in fact you
shouldn't feel a thing. As I said earlier I am Dr. Cazook and I am here to make
sure that you are okay."

Cazook ran the tricorder over Lt. Marksbury and was delighted to find that
there was nothing bodily wrong with her. The bleeding from her nose had stopped
- it had only been a tiny hemorrage. What she couldn't explain was why this
woman had no idea who she was or where she was. Of course, Cmdr Skyler was
still suffering from intense headaches. It made no sense to her, yet she didn't
want to run to Dr. Brookman at every mystery.

"Well, young lady it appears that you are in excellent condition. Are you sure
you don't remember anything? Anything at all? Any little detail would help."

She looked at her patient, over the top of her glasses which, as usual were
perched at the end of her nose, and wondered what was going on inside that head
of hers.

"I'm really confused. I don't know where I am. Or who I am. Can't you help
me?" the girl pleaded, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

"Why, of course I'll help you. I told you that's what I'm hear for," the doc
continued. "First of all, your name is Elissabeth Cate Marksbury. See? Says
right here," she told her, showing the PADD. "You are a Junior Lieutenant
serving on board the USS Avalon. You work in security. Does any of that ring
a bell?"

Lissi sat with her head cocked sideways in a very spaniel-like way.

"No."

This is really not good, Cazook thought, maybe I should call Brookman. "Well,
I'm sure it's temporary. These sort of things usually are. Perhaps you bumped
your head before we found you in the corridor. I think maybe the best remedy
for now would be to surround yourself with familiar things. We'll escort you
to your quarters - there isn't anything physically wrong with you." Except the
slight hemorrhaging of your brain you experienced, she added silently. "We'll
get you situated there and you can look through your personal belongings, files
and such. I'm sure this fuzziness will pass," she told her cheerily.

This lady must be nuts, thought Lissi. I have no idea who or where I am and
she just wants to turn me loose to figure it out on my own. Some doctor.

Lissi nodded stoically and bravely blinked back tears. Not a thing was
familiar. She didn't even know what she looked like, for Pete's sake. And
who's Pete? she wondered. It was going to be a very bad day.

Cazook called for Ensign Wright to escort Marksbury to her bunk.

"Make sure she gets there safely," were her instructions, "and that she doesn't
feel too out of place."

Yes, Lissi thought, this woman is definitely nuts.
