New Faces, New Places

Caine sat in her office staring at the PADD in front of her.  She was getting 
an 
assistant, it seemed slightly strange that the counselor of a ship would have 
an 
assistant but Caine wasn?t about to turn any help away, not with all the 
appointments she was having thanks to their little trip and all the crewmen 
that 
were lost during it.  Besides, maybe if she had an assistant she would get to 
see Javan more and spend more time with Hannah and trying to figure out what to 
do with that situation.  

Garrett was still chuckling to himself at Savannah?s leaving comment as he 
stopped in front of the counselor?s office doors.  Taking a moment, he stopped 
to make sure he was more then presentable for the meeting with his boss.  
Raising his hand, he pressed the button, hearing the chime ring inside of the 
rooms.  A muffled ?come in? hit his ears and Garrett put on his best smile and 
walked into Counselor Caine Reilly McKinsely?s office.

The swish of the doors opening and closing in the main waiting area could be 
heard in Caine?s office, so she put down the PADD she was looking at and stood, 
moving into the waiting area to great her visitor.  Caine was slightly 
surprised 
to see a handsome young man standing just inside the doorway looking around the 
room.  He was wearing a Star Fleet uniform with the pips of an ensign on his 
collar.  ?Can I help?? Caine asked, moving forward with a smile on her face.

Garrett turned at the sound a female voice and was pleasantly surprised to see 
a 
very beautiful woman standing behind him.  Placing the smile back on his face 
easy, Garrett moved forward.  ?I hope so.  I?m looking for Counselor McKinsely, 
my name is Garrett Stevens.?

?Oh, so your Mr. Stevens, please come in.  I?m Caine; it?s so nice to meet 
you,? 
she extended her hand to him and was impressed by the solid hand shake he 
provided.  ?Please, why don?t you come into my office and we can discuss your 
job and such.?  Caine turned and headed back into her office sliding back into 
her chair behind her desk while Garrett took a seat across from her.

If he was to be completely honest, he would have to say he was surprised by the 
counselor.  She was not what he expected after reading her file and hearing the 
what he did from Savannah and Evan, he had almost expected a bitch and a stupid 
one at that, but this blonde haired angel didn?t seem very stupid at all.  In 
fact, her deep blue eyes told of intelligence borne from pain and suffering.  
Garrett wondered about it for a moment before Caine?s voice pulled him out of 
his wonderings. 

?I?m actually not very prepared for you, nor am I sure exactly what I?m going 
to do with you, no offense of course, but I?ve never had an assistant, heck, I 
didn?t even know counselors got assistants till now.?  Caine smiled at Garrett, 
hoping he wouldn?t be mad with her for the position she was going to put him 
in.  ?So, for right now, until I?m more sure of how exactly I can use you as an 
assistant, I was wondering if you could be more of a secretary.  I know it 
doesn?t sound too great,? Caine hurried on to say, not wanting to deal with 
Garrett if he said no.  ?But you?ll get to learn a lot about being a counselor. 
 I?ll get you a desk for the waiting room and you can interact with patients 
there, as well as you get to do some of my paper work and that way you?ll learn 
in some more detail what goes on when I?m with a patient.  How does that sound 
to you??

?It sounds good ma?am,? Garrett said with an affirming nod, he knew that he 
would get stuck being just a secretary but hell, at least he wasn?t still in 
the academy.  



Caine nodded and handed Garrett a PADD.  ?Alright, now I know you have already 
checked in with security and gotten your clearance but this here is your 
quarter assignment as well as your work shift for the next two weeks.?  Caine 
smiled and stood up, throwing her hair back over her shoulder, cursing herself 
for having not taken the time to pull it back this morning.  ?If you have any 
questions you know where and how to reach me.?

?Thank you Counselor,? Garrett said, bowing to her slightly before making his 
way out to the main waiting area.  He was just about to leave when Caine called 
to him again, turning he looked at her.

?Welcome aboard Ensign,? a smile played on her lips as Caine said this.  
Garrett seemed like a nice enough guy.  She was definitely unsure of him, as 
she was most guys but Caine figured she would give him a chance, plus, she 
already had decided to go to Javan and talk to him, see if he knew anymore 
about this new assistant then she did.

Garrett just nodded to Caine?s welcoming and turned and headed back out into 
the corridor and in search of his quarters.  Counselor Caine Reilly McKinsely 
definitely seemed like an interesting person, he could tell that a lot more 
went on behind her eyes then she let be known.  It would be an interesting next 
few months, or how ever long Garrett was going to be stationed here, that much 
he could tell.
