Hi Mike & Merve
thank you both for your info. with Win7 they make it so easy ity's
hard. It didn't occur to me to look for "help me focus". Once I found
that I was able to set the notification time to 5 minutes.
Now I need to get a notification when I'm at my computer so I can see
how to access it. I think shift tabbing might work. Merve mentioned
how he used to access notifications so I'll have to go back and find
that in order to try it.
I need to get this stuff done soon as my AVG is almost expired and
Kaspersky is much better.
thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate this list.

Hi Brenda
Did you get the ease of access figured out?
I am using JAWS 18 with windows 7 on this computer. Here is what I just did.

The ease of access centre came up right away. I hit enter.
I tabbed 13 times or so to, make it easier to focus on tasks link. Hit enter.
I then tabbed about 10 times to, how long should windows notification dialog boxes stay open. Then arrow down to the time you desire. I just set it to 1 minute from 5 seconds.
I don’t have Kasperskyon this machine but I do on my windows 10 computer and I haven’t even looked at that yet.
Ok, Now I have this time increased on this windows machine I don’t know how to access the alerts when they come up.
I’m part way there though, right? Grin.

Hi Merv
thank you for these steps to work with kaspersky. I'm using a win 7 machine and can't even figure out how to make notifications last longer. I can't seem to find this in settings. Pressing Windows I doesn't do it, nor does typing ease of access in the search box.
I use Window-Eyes right now, and I imagine using the mouse pointer is like the touch pointer in jaws once I get that far.
I'm hoping you or someone else can help me change the notification setting using win7.
thanks,
thanks,

Hi David, Brenda and all:
You are correct David that windows has started placing this in the
action center. This is new behavior as of about a week ago. Before
that, it appeared as an alert window in the upper right corner of
the screen and I could select it with Windows + tab if I chose to.
And I could tab around in that window and make a number of
selections. Now it is relegated to the Action center. And Windows
+ A will access it. I spent a great deal of time learning how to
best access this window last night and I have several work
arounds. At least for Jaws 18. I don’t know how that translates to
NVDA 17.1. I have NVDA on my system but I have not tested it yet.
First I have my toasts staying around long enough for me to act
upon them. I did that by going into settings, Windows + I, and
then going to Ease of access. And then selecting Other. And then
changing the combo box for time a notification stays up from a few
seconds to as long as I choose. I chose 5 minutes but some may
choose 30 seconds or 1 minute.
Then while in Settings, I go to system. And then to Notifications
and Actions. Once I tap enter on Notifications and Actions I tab
to Kaspersky and make sure that it is checked. If it is not
checked I will check it by tapping space. Once I check it I will
be taken to Home so I will have to tab back through again. That is
a Windows flaw and just needs to be done. Don’t let it distract
you. If you do not have Kaspersky checked and you check it now it
will give you various options to tab through such as number of
notifications to display and type of priority. I set mine for 3
notifications and top priority. I then had to tap space twice in
order to confirm the settings.
Now when I do anything that ordinarily brings up a Kaspersky
notification it shows up in my alert pop up. And I have time to
tap windows + A in order to act on it.
Now here is the part where Jaws may act different than NVDA. Some
notifications require me to access my touch cursor to act upon
them. So I tap Shift + the Plus key on my numeric keypad and Jaws
says touch cursor. Then I arrow left or right through the
notification until I hear the button I want or check box and I tap
space. When I am done with touch cursor I tap the Plus key on the
numeric keypad twice and it says PC cursor.
I have tested this with a variety of situations. I’m not promising
this will work 100% of the time. But so far it has served me well.
Hope that helps.
Merv

As I am a Kaspersky user I find this of particular interest. I am
not seeing this behavior but I am not using any of the Internet
security packages. I'm using Kaspersky Antivirus 17.0.0.611D,
Windows 10 with NVDA 2017.1. I'm wondering if the options are
appearing in the Windows action center, rather than a separate
window? That's just a guess, however. If you press the Windows key
with the letter A is the message from Kaspersky in that list?
I would encourage you to contact them about this, especially via
Twitter.

Hi,
Yes sir I’ve noted this for about the past week or so with JFW
17 and NVDA under Windows 10 and wondered what precipitated
the change as it displeases and worries me. I switched from
Vipre to Kaspersky due to the promise of better accessibility
once installed so to see it potentially take a hit is a bit
disquieting.

Hi,
I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 2017, KIS 17. Beginning
very recently the notifications that popped up when something
needed permission such as a thumb drive was inserted or an
audio stream was accessed beyond the usual security setting,
was changed so that it is no longer possible to just tab
through the options and tap space on the button to either
allow or not allow whatever your choice is for any given
situation. I am not sure if this sudden and recent change has
occurred because of Windows or because of Kaspersky. I am
using windows 10 and Jaws 18 with KIS 17. I was wondering if
anyone else is noticing this decreased accessibility with any
other configuration of PC, screen reader, and Kaspersky
product? I know two others with my configuration who are
having the same issue.
