atw: auto archive

In Microsoft Outlook 2003
I frequently get a message asking me
whether I want to auto-archive now.
I have no idea what auto archive is
That is the first step: knowing what it is
ie: what does it remove from where and
where does it put it?
The second step would be
knowing how to retrieve items
knowing how to delete archived items
Does anyone know this?
