Well folks,
Once W2K was up and running, it took about half an hour to
repair the damage to my files that was done by Word 2002.
All the file handling and graphics path issues appear to
be resolved. (Files that I created in Word 2002 now load
and function flawlessly, after updating their fields to
local file paths and removing the INET portion of the
MERGEFORMAT code.)
...and Word 2000 is just so much faster and more
consistently reliable to use than 2002!
(Well, apart from being able to rely on 2002 to frustrate
my efforts to produce any documents.
Plus, it's just so nice to be able to create new files in
a way that actually makes sense again :-)
My special other thanks go to my customer's Help Desk folk
for their persistence, consideration and courtesy in
resolving this issue from afar.
(They're in Qld. I'm in Vic.)
Now back on with the job of creating operator (AKA user)
manuals.
(Knew in my bones that this would fix it.)
Phew!
So no thanks, all the same, BJA, I'll stick with something
that has more than one level of undo and some operator
configurable automation. Something that works very well
with what my SMEs are sending me.
Cheers,
Michael
