atw: Virus/Worm postings

Hi all,

an observation:

(1) This list goes through one of my email addresses (austarmetro) and all
of my other lists through a different one (ozemail).
(2) I have been getting a glut of virus/worm emails of the 'security update'
etc type (145K files approx) on my austarmetro account.
(3) When the list goes 'quiet' on weekends the glut slows and even stops
such that there is the suggestion here that the glut is possibly linked to
this list in some way or to a member's work computer system.

I filter through mailwasher etc so catch and delete/bounce these files.
(version 2 of mailwasher is available at:

http://www.mailwasher.net/ )

I suggest that the list itself be checked where it is distributing these
files (I assume here that others have the same pattern in distribution) - or
the virus/worm is on the freelists server etc.

I also suggest that list members do a virus/worm check ASAP. If you do not
have a checker then use the free one at symantec's website that enables an
online scan of one's PC for current virus/worms:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&v
enid=sym

It takes time but will be worth the effort to ensure no virus/worm is
present.

Chris.
