Employment History
DST International[1] employed me for the last eight and a half years. During
this time, I spent six and a half years as a Technical Writer and two as a
Business Analyst.
1998 to 2004
DST International
Senior Technical Writer (from June 2001)
My principle duties in this position were.
a.. Reviewing the HiPortfolio Help online reference manuals for structure,
subject matter, grammar, adherence to our in-house language and formatting
style.
a.. Writing, updating, and publishing reference manuals for HiPortfolio Help.
Source documentation for these manuals is from pre-existing material, new
enhancement documentation and discussions with development staff.
a.. Quoting for updates to existing documentation from software design
statements. The quoting of documentation updates to HiPortfolio manuals
requires a thorough examination of particular sections of design statements and
research into how and where to update the new material in the online reference
library.
a.. Creation and maintenance of the HiPortfolio Help online reference
library;
a.. Documentation investigation and support for DST staff and clients. This
task involves updating errata in manuals and helping staff find specific
information in the reference manuals.
NB: HiPortfolio Help is DST International's online reference library for the
HiPortfolio product. This library contains over 6000 A4 pages in over 150
manuals (each a compiled html file [.chm]). The manuals are distributed via
Microsoft's HTML Help browser (HH.EXE), which allows a full text search on all
6000 pages. Source material for these manuals is in RoboHelp HTML, which is
compiled by Microsoft's HTML Help into compiled HTML files (.chms).
I have recompiled the entire reference library (147 manuals) from Word
documents to Windows Help files and then into compiled HTML format (.chm). In
this task, I merged 150 .chm manuals. I have also merged all the indexes for
these chm files.
A highlight of this period was my key involvement in the recruitment of an
external documentation company for a major HiPortfolio documentation project.
Interviews and meetings included a Director and an Associate Director of DSTi.
After the successful out-sourcing of the project, I was a reviewer for an
external company of twelve writers.
Other activities in this period included the following:
a.. The creation and maintenance of an in-house style guide for all
HiPortfolio documentation. The basis for this guide was the Australian
Government Printing Style Manual 4th edition and the Oxford English Dictionary
10th edition,
a.. The creation and maintenance of scheduled programs to distribute online
manuals and weekly HiPortfolio patch documentation,
a.. Putting the entire HiPortfolio Help library into Visual Source Safe with
Robohelp X5
a.. The maintenance of the large network file and directory structure
supporting the HiPortfolio online reference library,
a.. The development and maintenance of programs that install HiPortfolio
programs (i.e. set-up programs),
a.. The development of programs that automatically generate accurate source
material for manuals.
1996- 1998
DST International
Business Analyst
My principle duties in this position were:
a.. Writing software-design specifications for enhancements to the
HiPortfolio system, specifically in the Performance Analysis, Performance
Measurement, Open Performance, Effective Exposure, Futures and Compliance
modules,

outline estimate stages), coordinating enhancements,
a.. Preparing quarterly software presentations for representatives of twenty
Australian financial institutions (known as the Australian User Group),
a.. Coordinating the fixing of bugs in HiPortfolio (from 28/12/96 to
26/5/97). This job involved project coordination and analyzing errors in the
HiPortfolio system, specifically in the Performance and Compliance and
Effective Exposure modules.
a.. Testing new enhancements for HiPortfolio in the following modules:

Futures, Order Control, Performance Analysis (Risk and Time comparative
reports), Performance Measurement, Portfolio Trading, Portfolio Enquiry,
