Tenix almost always has jobs like these going, and offer the opportunity
for long term employment and career growth (I've been here more than 16
years!). Given the number of multi-billion dollar defence projects in
the pipeline, the industry will offer secure employment for decades once
you have established yourself. The following are from our Marine
Division in Williamstown:
Technical Documentation Officers
Reporting to the Technical Documentation & Training Manager, you will
primarily be responsible for devising, writing, editing and implementing
comprehensive technical manuals. In so doing, you will author new
manuals to MIL-STD-5629B [this is a well documented formatting and
writing style manual for defence technical manuals], edit vendor
manuals, devise and deliver a range of technical documentation to meet
contractual requirements, assist with the development of advanced
procedures manuals and support configuration changes with
up-to-the-minute documentation and training.
You have a strong grasp of DEF (AUST) 5629A/B and DEF (AUST) 5647B
[defines when and where you can use a supplier manual vs rewriting]
standards, Defence and commercial training protocols, the use of
illustrations and schematics and FrameMaker (or similar) authoring
software [especially SGML]. You also understand ILS engineering,
documentation, supply support, training and configuration and ideally
have an Australian Defence Force (ADF) background. Technical writing and
illustration qualifications would be an advantage.
Technical Training Developers (VIC)
Reporting to the Training Manager - Integrated Logistics Support (ILS),
you will primarily be responsible for developing training materials and
conducting training in support of current and anticipated Projects. You
will also be responsible for providing input to the Training Manager -
ILS for project quotations as required.
To secure this exciting and challenging position, you must possess high
level technical skills along with strong computer skills with proven
experience in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. An ability to work
well under pressure and a proven ability to prioritise tasks and meet
deadlines is also a must. Tertiary level qualifications, or equivalent
and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are
essential. You must also be able to foster positive working
relationships. Previous experience working within the maritime industry
(preferably both commercial and naval) would be a distinct advantage, as
would a sound knowledge of relevant Training Standards and the ILS
framework.
Note - for most of these Tenix positions, domain expertise with the
tangible products of heavy and complex engineering and engineering
processes are deemed to be more important than knowing the mechanics of
writing. If you think you genuinely qualify for either, please send me
your resume and I will forward it (there is a finders fee). In theory,
these positions close 20th March, but given that they are generally
proving hard to fill, the deadline is probably not too critical. Note:
Our Aerospace division in Melbourne also usually needs people with
appropriate aviation backgrounds. Those of you in Adelaide should be
aware of our Land and Electronic Systems divisions based there, and
there may also be a possibility to work for Marine in the Perth area.
No phone calls, please.
