atw: Sydney contract; part-time; $70-75 an hour

Hi austechies,

A local company specialising in driver management and road safety products
is looking for an experienced technical writer (3+ years experience) to help
them prepare documentation for a new national traffic information product.
This would ideally suit someone looking for part-time work, as the
commitment required varies between 2 hours a week and 26 hours a week,
between early April and early June. (The first 2 weeks will need to be at
the company's office in Frenchs Forest (for 26 hours each week); after that
most of the work can be done at home and after hours.)

The work largely involves preparing a suite of MS Word templates (but
macro-writing and VBA experience is not necessary) and pulling together and
polishing content provided by others. However, there will be a few documents
where you will have to contribute significantly to the content. Your SMEs
are scattered around the world, so this role would suit someone used to
working collaboratively and remotely. You also need to have a good
understanding of IT projects and software development processes.

Tools experience
MS Word, MS Visio and MS Excel

Skills required
. Excellent written and verbal communication.
. Exposure to SLAs, SLRs, solution design documents, interface
specification documents, support processes and procedures and hardware
implementation plans
. Experience with preparing technical document templates of the
above-mentioned type for other parties to complete.
. Experience with writing, reviewing and reworking technical documents of
the above-mentioned type.
. Ability to understand very technical documents and rewrite these for less
technical audiences.
. Ability to plan and prioritise your time so that deliverables are
produced on time and to budget.
. Proficient at communicating via e-mail.
. Understanding of the roles and tasks required to manage complex technical
projects.
