To Allan Charleton and colleagues,
Michael Granat mentioned AVG antivirus www.grisoft.com
<http://www.grisoft.com> . I am familiar with AVG these last two years and
still use the free edition on some friend's machines. I have used VET and
Symantic but AVG has proven more transparent to other programs and
absolutely problem free. It has beaten the gun for me and found freshly
released virus on a machine protected by high end professional network
protection.
For my experience, I've subscribed to the paid AVG Version 7 professional on
my home machine.
I was keen to hear of Michael's findings with the Syquest firewall as I've
been using the free version of Zonealarm for over two years. Zonealarm has
been very good too, to the point of me wishing to pay for a licence when I'm
able. I'll give Syquest a look-in sometime soon - thanks Michael.
Microsoft Service Pack II ,for those on Windows XP, installs the new
firewall which I feel is the equal of Zonealarm. It is easy to train and
appears impartial to Microsoft or non-Microsoft requests for access to
machine or internet.
AVG antivrus, as maintained by Internet updates, is already tailored to work
with the Microsoft XP firewall.
Observing the spam generated by worm infiltration of my correspondent's
(translators) systems it is obvious how our livelihoods depend on having a
good firewall and antivirus system.
