Hi austechies,
I've had some queries about how to temporarily suspend receiving
austechwriter postings. The trick is to set your subscription to VACATION
mode. (This is certainly recommended if you intend sending an OUT OF OFFICE
message, which otherwise will be broadcast to the entire list whenever an
austechwriter message is sent.)
Setting VACATION mode
Send a blank email to austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with VACATION as
the subject.
With VACATION mode set, you can still read postings at
http://www.freelists.org/archives/austechwriter/
You will need to unset VACATION mode when you want to receive postings,
unless you specify a duration (see below).
<http://www.freelists.org/archives/austechwriter/>
Setting VACATION mode with a DURATION
Send a blank email to austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with VACATION [n]
d as the subject, replacing [n] with the number of days. So if it's Friday
afternoon and you're about to go on two weeks leave, you would enter
VACATION 16 d
Note that the space between the number of days and the lowercase d is
necessary.
Unlike VACATION on its own, this option automatically resumes postings to
you, after the specified number of days.
Cancelling VACATION mode
To cancel VACATION mode (either type), send a blank email to
austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with UNSET VACATION as the subject.
Setting DIGEST mode
If you want to receive just one email a day with all the day's postings
strung together (rather than receive every posting as a separate email),
send a blank email to austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with DIGEST as the
subject. (This is useful if the traffic gets too much or too distracting.
The single email digest is prefaced with a list of all the messages it
contains, so you can quickly see if any particular message is of interest to
you.)
Cancelling DIGEST mode
To cancel DIGEST mode, send a blank email to
austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with UNSET DIGEST as the subject.
An alternative method: I've put a form on
http://www.abelard.com.au/forum.html with which most of these options can be
selected.
Cheers
