atw: Shrank or shrunk?

Anyone interested in this question may like to look at the following article
by William Safire in the New York Times from 1995:

It seems that in 1995 the use of 'shrunk' as a past tense was still being
questioned in America (the film 'Honey, I shrunk the kids' came out in
1989). Maybe my outrage at the movie title wasn't just parochialism.
