Presented by Peter Meyer, Managing Director of Elkera Pty Limited
"None of us can avoid being aware that documentation systems are
changing, yet again. Microsoft is moving Word to its own XML format.
Competing XML formats, such as DITA, are being proposed as the new best
thing for technical documentation."
Peter Meyer will explain the fundamentals of XML, some of the different
flavours and how it can be used to automate the production of multiple
formats from a single data source. He will explore the advantages and
disadvantages of XML for technical documentation. This will provide a
basis for you to develop your own application requirements and determine
whether XML is right for your needs.
Presentation will include:
- Review of fundamentals of XML and competing formats, such as DITA.
- Advantages and disadvantages of XML, so that you can work out whether
you need to consider it for your work place
- Demonstration of XML authoring using XMetaL Author (Blast Radius,
Inc.) and tools developed by Elkera, as well as automated print and web
publishing from XML.
- Q & A open forum
