Well Matthew (DaS)
Consider these differences for starters (Well set=20
up monitor versus well printed paper):
* Projected light (monitor / screen) versus reflected light (paper).
* RGB colour versus CMYK or five colour process.
* Different resolution: Monitor 72dpi. Paper to and beyond 600dpi.
* No dot crawl and moir=E9 effect (unless=20
deliberate or double scanned) issues with paper.
* No colour saturation or brightness / contrast issues
* The feel, portability and user friendliness of paper.
* No operating system or other hardware /=20
software required, except a brain (software /=20
CPU) eyes (human Web cams) hands and a suitable light source.
* Taking your laptop to read in the loo could raise some eyebrows.
* Few monitors match A4 size and layout.
* Paper contains no animated distractions=20
(pop up dialogs only tend to occur in pop-up books).
So paper is quick, reliable, the highest possible=20
resolution, totally portable (in parts if you=20
like) can be annotated and copied, doesn't lose=20
all your data when it slides to the floor of your=20
seat, can be rearrange to suit the reader.
Plus, the biggest point of difference: one is a=20
reader (an active information gatherer) not a=20
user (a passive data sifter with parasitic connotations).
How's that for starters?
Cheers,
Micky G.
