atw: Re: writing for the web

Well Matthew (DaS)
Consider these differences for starters (Well set
up monitor versus well printed paper):
    * Projected light (monitor / screen) versus reflected light (paper).
    * RGB colour versus CMYK or five colour process.
    * Different resolution: Monitor 72dpi. Paper to and beyond 600dpi.
    * No dot crawl and moiré effect (unless
deliberate or double scanned) issues with paper.
    * No colour saturation or brightness / contrast issues
    * The feel, portability and user friendliness of paper.
    * No operating system or other hardware /
software required, except a brain (software /
CPU) eyes (human Web cams) hands and a suitable light source.
    * Taking your laptop to read in the loo could raise some eyebrows.
    * Few monitors match A4 size and layout.
    * Paper contains no animated distractions
(pop up dialogs only tend to occur in pop-up books).

So paper is quick, reliable, the highest possible
resolution, totally portable (in parts if you
like) can be annotated and copied, doesn't lose
all your data when it slides to the floor of your
seat, can be rearrange to suit the reader.

Plus, the biggest point of difference: one is a
reader (an active information gatherer) not a
user (a passive data sifter with parasitic connotations).

How's that for starters?

Cheers,

Micky G.
