atw: Re: "the exponential job game" and agencies

Christine,

Having also attended ASTC(Vic) meetings in the older premises in the
Victorian Writers Centre in Fitzroy, I can say their present venue with
VTR Consulting is a vast improvement. I have also attended some of the
free professional development nights that VTR put on in its own right,
and was highly impressed by the complete lack of any direct
commercialism in their own right. If there is any conflict of interest
between having the Vic people meet at VTR and their "independence", from
an outsider's point of view I would say the advantages of the VTR
premises far outweigh the other.

Mind you, given that it has been well over a decade since I last had to
look for a job, I have no idea how well VTR work as agents - but this
kind of agency information is probably best managed in a web-based
national database as has been suggested by other posters.

Regards,

| That may be because of the location of the meetings. How many people
| are going to whinge about the attitudes of a particular recruitment
| consultant - or in fact anything much - when the meetings are on the
| premises of said consultant with no door between the=20
| consultant left on
| duty and the meeting? Hmmm.

| Once I realised where the meetings where held, I lost all interest in
| joining the Vic group - as far as I was concerned at the time, it's
| freedom of action and behaviour was severely compromised by its
| location. I think others may have felt the same thing. I wonder if
| this has ever been brought to the attention of the committee?
