David if you give your details to some of the agencies others have
mentioned you can come out on a work visa.  There is a real shortage of
technical writers here at the moment and a booming construction and
mining industry looking to hire.

Can I say as a TA working in the UK I am reading all your views on
moving to and living in Australia with great interest. I am not
necessarily thinking seriously about moving to Australia but really the
only thing that would stop me would be the worry about finding a

The housing issues in Sydney are kind of funny. In the areas close to =
=3D
=3D3D =3D3D3D the city, where yuppies want to live and to an extent, =
near
where =3D I live, =3D3D3D rental properties are awkward - or absolutely
terrible to =3D get.
You can find =3D3D3D places to rent pretty easily in suburbs outside of =
=3D
=3D3D thirty kms from the centre =3D3D3D of Sydney, and with your =
background
may find =3D3D those locations more =3D3D3D attractive than some other
people =3D might.
Many people are paying more in rent than =3D3D3D in mortgage payments in
Sydney! It is stupid - very dangerous.=3D3D3D20

Getting a job is the first issue for you. Once you have that in =3D3D3D
Australia, you may find that will determine where you end up. Be aware
also, that =3D3D3D it is more tax advantageous in Australia to not live =
in
your own property, so =3D3D3D you buy properties to rent, not to live in
yourself... It is bizarre and =3D3D3D very likely to change.

Also be aware, our standard of living is being violently eroded now =3D
=3D3D3D because of fuel prices and the drought. So look closely at
Australian cities =3D3D3D that have good public transport systems. That
probably =3D3D removes Sydney =3D3D3D straight away. Remember too that =
you
will HAVE to =3D own a car =3D3D if you have kids and =3D3D3D live in an
Australian city.

It isn't all bad, especially on a perfect summer or winter day in =
=3D3D3D
Sydney, no better place to be.
