Can I say as a TA working in the UK I am reading all your views on moving to and living in Australia with great interest. I am not necessarily thinking seriously about moving to Australia but really the only thing that would stop me would be the worry about finding a suitable job role and remuneration.=20 This is all very useful info, thanks! =20 David.=20 -----Original Message----- From: austechwriter-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:austechwriter-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Warren Lewington Sent: 19 June 2008 11:00 To: austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: atw: Re: technical writers/editors in Melbourne The housing issues in Sydney are kind of funny. In the areas close to = =3D the city, where yuppies want to live and to an extent, near where I live, =3D rental properties are awkward - or absolutely terrible to get. You can find =3D places to rent pretty easily in suburbs outside of = thirty kms from the centre =3D of Sydney, and with your background may find = those locations more =3D attractive than some other people might. Many people are paying more in rent than =3D in mortgage payments in Sydney! It is stupid - very dangerous.=3D20 Getting a job is the first issue for you. Once you have that in =3D Australia, you may find that will determine where you end up. Be aware also, that =3D it is more tax advantageous in Australia to not live in your own property, so =3D you buy properties to rent, not to live in yourself... It is bizarre and =3D very likely to change. Also be aware, our standard of living is being violently eroded now =3D because of fuel prices and the drought. So look closely at Australian cities =3D that have good public transport systems. That probably = removes Sydney =3D straight away. Remember too that you will HAVE to own a car = if you have kids and =3D live in an Australian city. It isn't all bad, especially on a perfect summer or winter day in =3D Sydney, no better place to be. wjlewington@xxxxxxxxxx =3D20 WJL Consulting. I do have a timeframe in mind, before =3D actually relocating, till my son finishes his playschool. Hopefully, the gas situation and housing problems are resolved by then. Hope to get a good career opportunity and work experience in Australia. Thanks again for your inputs.
