Hi Christine (K)
From what I hear, Nuance (formerly known as
Scansoft) Dragon Dictate is reputed to be the
finest commercial product of its type and is very
highly regarded (and in use in many high end legal firms).
Certainly, in my experience, their PDF Creator /
Converter Professional software that I use
absolutely aces Adobe Acrobat Pro for a fraction
of the cost and resource hungriness.
My recommendation would be to see if they have an
evaluation version for download and give it a go.
(Results on Vista might vary.)
BTW, once you've used their PDFing software
(which does the most astounding MS Office
conversions (to and from) even "opening" PDFs in
Word and Excel after converting them according to
your preferences, and how much faster it PDFs
large documents you'll never go back to the later
Adobe bloatware again, which hasn't been much
chop since they dropped the Acrobat moniker.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Micky G.

Hi Guys
I keep getting advertising from Nuance for their
new speech recognition software, Dragon, and am
questioning whether it is now time to make
another leap from ?old? to ?new?
technology. Last I knew anything about it,
speech recognition software was heavy going and
almost impossible to ?tune? with anything other than an American accent.
Their advertising ?So imagine how much more
productive you'd be if your everyday tasks no
longer involved typing. Most people type about
40 words per minute but speak more than 120
words per minute. What if you could create
email, documents and spreadsheets simply by
speaking? Or control your PC just by talking to
it, starting programs, using menus, surfing the
Web? That would be pretty amazing. And fast.?
Does anyone know if these claims are now
actually true? Imagine the benefits for us if it is!
And these claims
??
Create and edit documents and spreadsheets by voice
?
Quickly send email and instant messages
?
Quickly search the Web and your desktop by voice
?
Format and correct text by voice
?
Use a single voice command to insert blocks of
text or graphics, like your name, title, logo and signature
?
Easily proof your documents with dictation playback
?
Dictate into a handheld recorder for transcription later
?
Enjoy up to 99% accuracy - more accurate than the most skilled typists?

Christine
