I believe current and future policies on the subject of email and=
 its
regulation quite important to my role as a tech writer. If you=

don't, you simply need to check the subject line and go no=
 further.

The topic is currently the subject of Federal legislation, and I=
 can
think of no more important time to discuss it and its=
 implications to
my work and my continuing education via the internet.

And can I simply point out that the future of this list and=
 others of
its kind depends to some extent on the decisions made about
regulation of email and spam etc.? So how can it be OT for=
 this
list ?

If you're bored, by all means say so. But allow to the rest of=
 us
our interest in something +we+ regard as important enough to=
 discuss
-- sometimes at length. Just use the OFF button.
