atw: Re: meltdowns, inspiration and motivation

Having been a long-time observer and occasional contributor to this
list, I can confirm that one of it's key uses is whinging and personal
abuse!

Given that Steve had trouble maintaining a working computer I
presented what I thought to be some factual information about one way of
maintaining effective hardware for technical writing.

I had thought that there might be some people on this list that
might have found the information of benefit.

What is the function of this list? Is it to provide resources
and information to technical writers or is it for whinging and personal
abuse?

Steve could be caustic, opinionated, bull-headed and
prickly - traits with which you can identify, I do not doubt (Damian
Forlani-Brennan). He was also the first in line to help a mate and
offer assistance to anyone on this list. He frequently contributed to
the discussion and his advise and counsel will be missed, as will his
unorthodox sense of humor.

There was no "hidden" message - the evolution to
meltdown was glaringly obvious to anyone capable of more than skimming
across the surface like a water spider. Your inability to decipher cause
and effect, even when it is pointed out to you, may not serve you well
in the long run and I enthusiastically recommend sudoku to stimulate
your skill at connecting the dots in more than one narrow direction.
Empathy is another matter altogether, and short of a strong dose of
clinically administered ecstasy, I doubt there is much that can be done
in that quarter. Assuming that you may need help with a bona fide
cryptic reference, see http://ecstasy.org/books/e4x/e4x.ch.10.html and

I am well familiar with the landscape in which
we work (thank you very much Christine Kent) and re-reading Steve's post
failed to reveal any hidden messages. I don't often have much to add to
the discussion, but there are times you just have to respond. I stand
by my previous post.

Looking forward to my time finally coming :)
