Thanks for the advice, Andrea.
This is what I was considering doing...
Using RoboHelp, I would create a Web site containing a
TOC. The TOC would represent the directory structure
and each page in the TOC would contain hyperlinks to
the actual files (or even related documents, other
pages on our intranet, or whatever).
The Web site would reside on our Web server and the
hyperlinks would need to point to actual files that are
also stored on the Web server. Each file would need its
permissions set on the actual server itself (not in
RoboHelp).
Would you make any changes to this?

For what it's worth, I've also used a version of
RoboHelp to maintain an
intranet - largely because my then employer wouldn't
cough up to buy me
another software package to maintain the site -
nonetheless, it worked quite
well.
I'd highly recommend the ehelp user groups, I found
them extremely helpful
whenever I had a bug or glitch to resolve.'
