atw: Re: job ads...

Hello,
I too have referred agencies in the recent past (three of them) to post on this
list, and they were glad for the opportunity to narrowcast their advertising.
I can understand the irritation about the marketing blurb that goes with some
ads but to me the tone of an ad and the choice of words says something about
the style of the company and the working environment. For example,
'fast-paced, dynamic environment' might be cliched but would indicate to me
that for a contract role the expectation may be that you need to hit the ground
running so someone with direct industry experience may find this a role to go
for rather than someone with more generic skills. It gives you some insight
into what questions to ask of the agency when sussing it out - like does it
mean :

a) I wont have time to scratch myself because they've left recruiting this
role to the last minute, or
b) it's a "can do" work environment with the connotations that go with that
cliche (maybe not so good for mothers who prefer set work hours) .
c) not much scope to learn as you go or receive some brief training/induction.

To force these ads into a strict format like a database form would make these
impressions invisible. Now if we had a high volume of these ads then it would
be more convenient to see a summary instead.

Hello Everyone! I agree, job ads do have a place on this forum and are useful
in keeping us up on what is happening in the market. I personally have referred
two recruitment agencies here who have actively recruited from this list as
they have found it nigh impossible to locate suitable candidates out in the
market place. I like the suggestion about guidelines for ad placement as I get
sick and tired of reading: 'fast-paced, dynamic environment' and the like* It
is one of those over-used phrases that is virtually meaningless, and really it
is like saying something is good. Good in what way? I have also heard that
AuthorIT have a big release coming up? Anyone heard the scuttlebutt?
