atw: Re: image file formats - suggestions wanted

No.

Snagit has settings somewhere for changing the quality of the output. =
You
are probably saving the files in web output resolution. Snagit has some
nasty ways of hiding the settings and so on now. I am just about over =
Snag
it.

Indesign WON'T fix the problems you are experiencing. Plonker. Indesign =
is
very good, I love it, and own it at home, but it is like hitting a nail =
into
a plank with a pile driver.=20

Illustrator or Corel Draw might help you but the problem starts with =
Snag-it
not rendering the images up to suit print documentation. Goes back to
settings.

Word doesn't really lose image information, it parses it into MS horse
du-du. Wmf is the purest form here because it is MS's own, but MS =
handles
png and jpg really well.=20

As I said in my previous post, go for the save as concentrating on
resolution and dimensions.

This is a screen shot made using SnagIt. I then add graphical elements
(numbers) and flatten the file before importing it into MS-Word (as BMP
currently).

The size of the PDF is less important than image clarity.

Since my original enquiry here, however, I'm told that MS-Word will =
always
lose image information. You can't control the output with MS-Word in the
same way you can, for example, with a proper DTP app.

In other words, a guy here thinks a product such as InDesign, for =
example,
would resolve this.

Hi Matthew,

Others will probably give you more detailed and better information =
=3D3D20
than I can. However, my experience has been that bitmaps are about the =
=3D3D20
most memory intensive ways of storing images. It also depends on the =3D =
=3D3D20
type of image: line drawings generally do well as tiffs, photos as =
=3D3D20
jpegs etc.

I look forward to others' responses.

Cheers,
Terry
