This is one of those issues that depends a great deal on what tool(s) you=
 use... and what you can include, as
well as what types of image you are using.  If you're including vector-style=
 graphics and want to preserve
resolution, and you plan to finish in PDF format, consider using the PDF=
 format (if possible) for your images 
you want to include-- or opt for SVG which may give you the same sort of=
 result, as is often imported into
either pdf or a similar Postscript-type format by a documentation tool. 
And if you can convert your bitmapped images to PDF and import them into=
 your document as PDF, you may find 
that works better too.   Something to test and try -- it may not always be=
 possible, and may not always work, but
it sorta figures that if you're finishing in PDF, it may be helpful to start=
 from PDF.
