atw: Re: black and white

Well Erisa (L), if we are talking something physical rather than
electronic, why bother to scan it in.

(Why do people automatically look for high-tech solutions to such
low tech problems!)

Why not simply relocate all the fluff into one area and physically
measure the percentage of the area left of the dried result.

Although this does not measure the depth of the deposited substance
(neither will scanning it in) surely it is a start.

You might have to distribute the crushed / compacted fluff at an even
density, which should be noted.

Or, perhaps, you could measure its weight and uncompacted volume.

Mind you, I am sure that the scientists at the CSIRO or at Choice
(Australian Consumers' Association) would have a better way to measure
this, so perhaps you should get in touch with them by way of their
Web sites: <http://www.csiro.gov.au/> and <http://www.aca.com.au/>
respectively

Sorry to be boring or obtuse. No I am not getting muddled.
I am trying to get a clinically acceptable method for detecting the=20
effectiveness of lint removal in washing machines.
If I can scan in the fabric and test the percentage of white on black, the=
n I=20
will have a test.
