But remember that if you want cross references to be effective, you need
to have each of the relevant files open at the time of setting the cross
reference... and particularly ensure that the target file is open when you
select the point to cross reference to.
Agreed, Peter, but the way I've always done it (in FM 6, maybe it's changed
in later versions?) it's not possible to set it up without having both
files open. When you set up the cross ref you obviously have the file from
which the jump will occur open, and when you select cross ref from the
Special menu, the ensuing dialogue box requires that you select the file in
which the cross ref marker exists, so by definition this has to be open as
well. Am I missing some subtle point here? Is there another way of setting
a cross ref without both files open which results in a dead cross ref?
