Hi Erica -
Are you interested in a particular field of TW, such as software, hardware,
telecomms, policies and procedures, medical, science... ?
As others have said, the obvious first step is the smallest one, to a field
you already have a head start in--science, medicine, biotech.
Can you only take work in the Geelong area? If so, you're limited to the
industries that are based there (e.g. playing football, making cars,
probably other stuff--that's the extent of my knowledge :^/ )
If you find it hard to get a TW job through the front door, a common route
is to get a job doing something else you're qualified for at an
organisation that doesn't realise it needs a TW, and gradually become their
TW by osmosis while no-one's looking.
Good luck.
