Hi Stuart,=20
You're right, having the autotext is double handling. You can skip the
autotext option and add text directly into the macro if you want. I like
having the text within the macro as it allows everything to be
completely self contained, as well as allowing comments within the macro
to explain what the entry is about.=20
Additionally you can modify the text inserted when you click the macro
button based on environmental conditions or inputs.
There are advantages to the autotext option however, as it allows easier
modification of formatting, etc. and means that people who might not be
overly technical can edit the text to be inserted without messing with
the macro.

Subject: atw: Word macro to insert autotext
Hi all -
I'm setting up a template in Word 2003=3D2E The content is mostly
headings and tables--open a new document based on the template, type
text under the headings, enter content in the tables=3D2E
Some headings are standard and are always there when you open a new
document=3D2E Some content is optional=3D2E
For the optional content, I want to have a custom toolbar with 6-10
buttons, one for each type of optional content=3D2E Click a button to
insert the corresponding block of text (e=3D2Eg=3D2E a heading followed by
an=3D
empty paragraph followed by a table with a header row and a couple of
empty rows)=3D2E
I guess I could create an Autotext entry for each content type, then
record a simple macro in which I just insert the Autotext at the
cursor location=3D2E This would work, though it seems a little indirect=
=3D2E
I'm wondering if there's a best or better practice=3D2E
Is there a way to assign a block of formatted text directly to a
macro button=3D3F
Stuart
