atw: Re: Word cross-ref query

Elizabeth & Terry,

Many thanks for the idea, Elizabeth - I'll save it for future ref.

I realised that what I actually needed to do was to create the x-refs as
hyperlinks, because I didn't want the link text to be replaced by the the
header text I was x-reffing. That worked fine.

Terry - (I'm not at work today) I was unable to get the customised headers
to display in the x-ref dialogue box, even though they do have outline
level settings. Maybe next time a client asks for a customised template I
should stick with using the same style names as in normal.dot .

regards

Glenda

Hi Glenda

This keeps getting rejected by freelists, so I'm copying you in directly
this time!

You could try setting them up as captions with custom labels. The
numbering system would be independent of the paragraph styles.

You may have to fiddle around with deleting the label after you've
inserted the caption (the numbering will still work), and fiddle around
with the combination of number/caption in the cross-ref itself, but once
it's going it should be ok.

I use captions a lot in docs to create cross refs to things like
reference documents, etc.

All,

I'm using a customised template that doesn't use the standard Word
heading
styles, and I want to set up cross-references to these headings. Is it
possible
to get the customised heading styles to display in the cross-ref box so
that
you can set up x-refs to these headings (rather than using bookmarks)?

many thanks

Glenda
