atw: Re: Word Happens: Normal font size [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

I have worked on a few sites were the policy is to NOT use Normal style or
normal.dot. The document has more chance of arriving at another PC
looking like it should.

I have also worked at a place were the boss would ask tech writers to email
their resumes. He would then scan the resume for instances of where a
style had been overridden. If it was all normal style but many font sizes,
they had little chance of getting in the door.

Hi Sam,

Given that almost every computer has a different
normal.dot, I have a policy of never using it as a
specific template.

Also, the same applies to Normal paragraph styles. I
always create a new set of styles, none of which are
based on Normal. I also search the template and
convert any instances of Normal to a new style.

I've found this makes things a lot more robust and the
documents don't change if others (accidentally) apply
their normal templates/styles to the document.

Cheers,
Terry
