Paragraph numbering in Word can be unpredictable unless you are very careful
when you define the styles.

I suggest that you read the article in the following link:

  Hi All

A small formatting issue with the Headings within Word 2002.

We have several documents that are set up as separate chapters, each with its
own numbering system for the headings, ie Chapter One is Heading 1.1 for
heading 2, Chapter 2 is Heading 2.1 for heading 2 etc. This is all set up with
a 'dummy' Heading One at the start of every chapter.

I have done this before but this time I seem to be having problems and not
sure why.

The issue is that the template appears to picking up the numbering for the
wrong chapters, but randomly. So, the heading in Chapter 5 may be OK with no
issues, however Chapter 4 may pick up the numbering for Chapter 9, so the
headings in Chapter 4 are Heading 9.1 for heading 2, Heading 9.1.1 for heading
3 etc. We have had several people go through it and there doesnt appear to be
an issue, but clearly there is!!

Any brilliant and inspired ideas out there???
