Hi Ian (G)

No backlash, just info.

Avast Antivirus is available. Even the freeware version (licensing
conditions apply) is very comprehensive and also features spyware
detection and protection.

See: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-for-linux-workstation.html

I'm rather happy with it, despite the big daily update files, plus the
installer download is quite a manageable 36Mb or so in size.

AVG has a Linux version too, both brands provide the Debian installer
package for an easy installation. (Avira's one is a bit messy, just an
archived folder that really requires far more effort than it should to
install.)

The Gufw 9.10.4 firewall (the graphical interface to UFW - the Unix
firewall) also works just fine and is free.

As with any new operating system experience, it's worth investing some
time alone with it to familiarise yourself with how to make it work the
way you prefer.

Cheers,

Micky G.
