atw: Re: What does the ATO think we are?

Jonathon.
Very simple.
Go for the category that offers you the most possibilities for deductions.
The greyer the rules are, the easier it is to claim for all sorts of things.

Think of it this way, if they don't know what we are, how can they know what
we can't claim? ;-) The less that the ATO thinks about us the better off we
are.

Moreover, why isn't the accountant suggesting the category you fall into?
That's his job. You should be handing your tax over to him and let him get
on with it. Doing it yourself is only going to cost you money.

Warren.

Tax time! And my accountant asked what I did last financial year. And he
needed to select one from the categories offered. "Technical Writer" and
"Documentation anything" are absent. The closest I could find was
"Information Technology Officer 2231". Doubtless others have encountered
and, presumably, conquered this issue. Perhaps they could share this
knowledge? Jonathan Moffett
